Day of the Tentacle Remastered: Classic Puzzles & Fixes That Work

Day of the Tentacle: Remastered is a brilliantly funny point-and-click adventure game by LucasArts, originally released in 1993 and remastered by Double Fine Productions in 2016. With its wacky time-travel narrative and hand-drawn cartoon style, players control three friends—Bernard, Laverne, and Hoagie—as they try to stop a mutated purple tentacle from taking over the world. This cult classic is celebrated for its clever puzzles, voice acting, and nonlinear storytelling. The remastered version brought in enhanced visuals, developer commentary, and seamless switching between classic and updated modes.
Despite its age, the remaster runs surprisingly well on modern PCs. However, some players report issues like resolution bugs, audio desyncs, or the game failing to launch on certain Windows 10/11 setups. These can often be resolved by running the game in compatibility mode or disabling fullscreen optimizations in the .exe file properties.

With overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam and tens of thousands of downloads across platforms, Day of the Tentacle remains a must-play for fans of smart humor and classic gaming design.

What was the most memorable puzzle or joke that stuck with you from this timeless adventure, and how long did it take you to solve it?

Do you think a *Day of the Tentacle 2* could ever work in today’s gaming world? With the right team, I’d back that on Kickstarter instantly.

Never played the original but picked this up on sale. Absolutely hooked. I wish more devs would take risks like this again.

I always forget how smart LucasArts puzzles are. Like they make you laugh, then five minutes later you realize what the clue meant.

Remastered version fixes so much, but I do wish they had an option to rebind keys. Accessibility options are a bit lacking.

Played it as a kid, replayed it now as a parent. Still funny. Still weird. Still genius.

If you’re doing walkthroughs for friends, remember to toggle subtitles—some of the audio cues can be missed if you’re playing muted

Finally crossed this off my backlog after YEARS. Totally worth it. Played it in one weekend. 10/10.

Played it with my 11-year-old daughter and she *loved* it. Says it’s like “a funny cartoon that makes you feel smart.” We both got stuck on the vine puzzle for hours.

FYI: If your save files disappear after an update, try verifying game files through Steam. It fixed it for me!

Haha YES, the frozen hamster! I actually paused and googled if it was legal in the 90s to include stuff like that. This game had no chill 😂

Tried playing on Linux with Proton and it runs near-perfect. Only issue: audio stutters in the intro cutscene. Everything else smooth. Proton GE 8-17 works best so far.

This game taught me that toilets can be time machines… and that we never deserved Purple Tentacle as our overlord.

Does anyone know if the remaster has hidden extras? I found the dev commentary but wondering if there are other secrets or Easter eggs.

Tried running it on an old laptop with Intel HD Graphics. Surprisingly smooth. The game is super lightweight. Just had to tweak resolution down to 720p.

Does anyone else wish they’d remaster *Full Throttle* the same way? Or maybe even *Sam & Max Hit the Road*?
