If you’re into high-octane fun with friends or fierce online competition, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a must-play title for the Nintendo Switch. As the definitive version of the iconic racing franchise, MK8 Deluxe takes everything fans love—tight drifting mechanics, outrageous power-ups, and imaginative tracks—and cranks it up to 11.

With over 55 million units sold globally as of 2025, it’s the best-selling racing game of all time. Players can choose from 42 characters and race across 48 cleverly designed courses, including classics from previous Mario Kart titles and new additions like the vibrant Yoshi’s Circuit or gravity-defying Big Blue.

Key features include:

  • Local multiplayer (up to 4 players split-screen)
  • Online play for up to 12 players
  • 200cc speed class for thrill-seekers
  • Smart Steering for younger or new racers

While the game runs at a smooth 60 FPS, some users report occasional lag online. Pro tips: use a wired LAN adapter, restart your router, or set your matchmaking region to reduce latency.

So, what do you think—does Mario Kart 8 Deluxe still deserve the crown, or is it time for a new contender to take the wheel?

They nailed the character variety. Isabelle, Inkling, King Boo—so many personalities. It keeps the game fresh, especially when you’re racing with a themed crew like all Bowsers or all babies. 😂

Best kart racer? Absolutely. Best racing game overall? Not sure. For pure driving mechanics, I’d put F-Zero GX or even Forza Horizon above it. But for fun factor and party vibes? MK8D still wins.

Hot take: MK8 Deluxe needs an expansion or sequel ASAP. We’ve been riding the same tracks for years now. I’d pay good money for new Grand Prix cups or even some Nintendo crossover characters (Samus on a speed bike, anyone?)..

I’ve logged 400+ hours and I’m still discovering little tricks on each track. It’s not just a party game—it has a competitive layer that people underestimate. Ever tried time trials on 200cc? Brutal but rewarding

The biggest W is that it’s super accessible. My girlfriend never plays games, but she wrecks me with auto-accel + smart steering. Meanwhile, I’m sweating trying to perfect mini-turbos. 😅

The battle mode alone deserves more love. Shine Thief is chaos incarnate, and I’m here for it. I wish more online players actually queued for battle instead of just racing. That mode is criminally underrated.

Overrated? Nah. The only thing that’s overrated is my confidence when I’m in first and hear a blue shell incoming. Instant anxiety. But seriously, the design of the game is just chef’s kiss. It’s smooth, gorgeous, and addictive.

I think what makes MK8 Deluxe unbeatable is its balance between chaos and skill. You can be the best driver, but one blue shell later, it’s anyone’s game. That makes it hilarious and frustrating in the best way possible. 😂
